Saleen Shows Off Its 2015 302 Black Label Ford Mustang

Saleen Shows Off Its 2015 302 Black Label Ford Mustang

If there’s any company out there that should know how to tune up a new Mustang, it’s the folks at Saleen. Yes, it’s been awhile since we’ve have a true S-badged bruiser roaming the streets. Now though, it looks like the time has come to welcome an all-new super Stang from the house that Steve built. Say hello to the 2015 302 Black Label.

In late 2014, Saleen announced it would be building White and Yellow Label examples of the new Mustang. The White Label takes the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine and massages it a bit for a modest power bump over the stock output. That carproduces 450 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Yellow Label adds on a supercharger and a host of other upgrades to push the power figure up to an eye-watering 715 horsepower and 595 pound-feet of torque. The Black Label takes things even further.

Under the hood of the 302 Black Label, we have the Coyote V-8 and its supercharger mate working together to produce 730 horsepower and an even 600 pound-feet of torque. That means we’ve pushed past Hellcat territory, which you can bet was certainly benchmarked by the Saleen team. Here we also have a car with massive fuel injectors, a high-volume intercooler, tuned exhaust, and a limited-slip differential that’s going to get lots of exercise.

The engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a paddle-shiftable six-speed automatic. To keep the car moving in the intended direction, Saleen have upgraded the chassis with new springs, shocks, sway bars, and bushings. Fifteen-inch rotors and multi-piston brakes are on hand to slow things down, and massive 275-series tires are wrapped around 20-inch wheels to keep the car planted.

The 2015 Saleen 302 Black Label is being offered in a wide range of exterior colors. There’s a number of interior choices as well, and a list of options for a buyer to choose from. All Black Label cars come hand signed by Steve Saleen as well. Not bad for a starting price of a little over $73,000 considering it has more power (and should be far more rare) than the all mighty Hellcat.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will have a 450 HP Twin-Turbo V-6

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will have a 450 HP Twin-Turbo V-6

The upcoming 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is just one of the many exciting products that the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] revealed to the world at the recent 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Some truck fans may have been initially worried when the rowdy pickup took to the stage, however, because it was announced that the 6.2-liter V-8 engine of the previous Raptor would be replaced by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost.

Fear not off-road riders, as it’s just been revealed that the new mill will make 450 horsepower. That’s nearly 40 more than the outgoing, heavier, V-8 unit. Of course, we know the engine will pump out more than 600 hp, as that’s what’s promised for the new GT supercar which will feature its own version of the potent EcoBoost six.

The Raptor news comes by way of Ford product development chief Raj Nair who unexpectedly shared the info during an interview on Fox Sports (via Automobile). Pair the upgraded power figure with the truck’s lighter aluminum body and the 2017 F-150 Raptor should handily dispatch its earlier version down a dusty trail.

The new vehicle should be a big hit with tough truck fans as Ford has also increased the amount of travel on the suspension, thrown a few upgrades into the cabin space, and refined the exterior shape. We’re mixed on the giant “FORD” lettering in the grille, but it certainly falls in line with the overall in-your-face attitude that a Raptor gives off. That goes for the current generation truck as well, as its a vehicle with serious presence on the street.

New Ford GT Supercar Revealed At 2015 Detroit Auto Show

New Ford GT Supercar Revealed At 2015 Detroit Auto Show

The Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] has shocked the automotive world with the unveiling of an all-new GT supercar today at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. As stunning as it looks, the GT on show in Detroit isn’t a concept to be watered down by the time production rolls around but a preview of the car that will be hitting showrooms sometime in 2016.

It’s got all the typical supercar cues such as a mid-mounted engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration, and a sleek, aerodynamic coupe body. But instead of the typical V-8 engine found in most performance Fords, including the previous GT, the new generation will come packing an EcoBoost V-6 engine whose twin-turbochargers will help liberate more than 600 horsepower.

No Ford Raptor yet? Hennessey VelociRaptor 600hp Supercharged is here

No Ford Raptor yet?  Hennessey VelociRaptor 600hp Supercharged is here

Can’t wait for Ford to launch its own high-performance Raptor version of the latest F-150 pickup truck? Well, perhaps you should give vehicle tuner Hennessey Performance a call.

The Texan tuner has come out with one of its popular VelociRaptor packages for the aluminum-bodied F-150, and at this early stage the package is already offering in excess of 600 horsepower.

The package’s full name is VelociRaptor 600 Supercharged, and as that name suggests Hennessey engineers have installed a supercharging kit for the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] workhorse.  The supercharger features a Roots-type design and fits on the F-150’s available 5.0-liter V-8.

In standard form this engine is tuned to deliver just 385 horsepower, but with the VelociRaptor 600 Supercharged package installed output extends to more than 600 horses. This is with about 8 psi of boost, and no doubt more powerful setups are already in the works. Other upgrades include high-flow intake and exhaust systems, upgraded fuel injectors, and Hennessey’s proprietary engine management calibration. Also standard are 33-inch BFGoodrich tires on custom 17-inch wheels.

Just 500 examples of the VelociRaptor 600 Supercharged package will be offered for 2015. Pricing starts at $73,500, which includes a base 2015 Ford F-150 FX4 Super Crew equipped with a V-8. Some of the options being offered include custom off-road coilover suspension, upgraded front and rear bumpers, a front winch, LED light bars, Brembo brakes and more.

Anyone interested can order one of the vehicles direct from Hennessey or through Ford’s dealer network. A VelociRaptor package for F-150s equipped with a V-6 EcoBoost engine is currently in the works, and perhaps we’ll also see one of Hennessey’s SUV conversions offered for the latest F-150 pickup truck at some point.

Galpin And Henrik Fisker Reveal 725-HP 2015 Mustang

Galpin And Henrik Fisker Reveal 725-HP 2015 Mustang

Henrik Fisker is probably best known for his attempt at starting an automaker, but before the days of Fisker Automotive the Danish businessman was working as a car designer and running coachbuilder Fisker Coachbuild. Well, it appears Fisker isn’t finished with the auto world just yet as he’s teamed up with famous Ford tuner Galpin Auto Sports to develop a carbon fiber-bodied car based on the 2015 Ford Mustang and called the Rocket.

Revealed today in full at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Rocket is described as the “ultimate American muscle car” and will eventually be available for sale. Interested buyers will have the option of purchasing a car through Galpin’s own dealership or one of several hand-picked locations not only here in the U.S. but across the world. Deliveries of the car are scheduled to commence early next year.

The Rocket’s design is unmistakably inspired by specialty pony cars of the 1960s and early ‘70s, including the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (Fisker’s favorite). Anchored by an imposing hexagonal grille crafted from carbon fiber and split with a polished aluminum bar, the Rocket’s lines emanate from the front, through the long hood, over a set of sculptured flared fenders and converge on its integrated rear spoiler.

That spoiler, along with many of the car’s other aero pieces, is fully functional. A front splitter also helps draw out hot air from underneath the car to improve engine cooling, while simultaneously working in conjunction with the rear spoiler, enlarged rear diffuser and side skirts to produce downforce. And those large scoops in the hood are designed to channel air into the engine bay, also helping to keep the car’s engine, a 725-horsepower supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, cool.

Other elements of the design include a custom silver paint finish known as Éminence Grise; independent, fully-adjustable suspension; 21-inch wheels shod with Pirelli P-Zero tires; and powerful Brembo brakes with 15-inch discs up the front.

You might be wondering how this project came about. It turns out Galpin’s ties with Henrik Fisker date back several years. In addition to being a top dealer for the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F], Galpin is also a major dealer for Aston Martin. Henrik Fisker previously worked as a design for the British sports car brand, helping with the designs of the DB9 and Vantage models, and it was during this time that he first met the team at Galpin.

“Ford’s engineers and [Ford design chief] Moray Callum’s design team did an amazing job with the new Mustang,” Henrik Fisker said at today’s reveal. “So good in fact, I think the design additions and power upgrades we have made to the car help it play in a higher league, against much more expensive supercars.”

2015 Ford Mustang Gets 600+ HP With Ford Racing And Roush Supercharger

2015 Ford Mustang Gets 600+ HP With Ford Racing And Roush Supercharger

The 435-horsepower of the 2015 Ford Mustang GT a bit too tame for you? Well, the Ford Motor Company’s [NYSE:F] performance partners Ford Racing and Roush have come up with a new supercharger kit that will help the car’s 5.0-liter V-8 deliver more than 600 hp.

The new kit, announced today at the 2014 SEMA show, will be available later this year from Ford dealerships and select retail channels for Ford Racing and Roush. It includes the complete hardware and calibration settings to enable the Mustang GT to comfortably produce more than 600 hp, and when installed at an authorized dealer also comes with a limited warranty.

Full details are yet to be released but similar upgrades for the previous-generationMustang GT saw output rise as high as 624 hp when running 9 psi of boost pressure. These earlier kits relied on a 2.3-liter Whipple supercharger, custom intake manifold, complete air-to-liquid intercooler, new fuel system and custom calibration. And the going price was just over $8k.

Though yet to be confirmed, the new supercharger kit announced today is expected to be the basis of Roush’s own RS3 upgrade for the Mustang, which should be announced soon. Roush also has RS2, RS1 and RS upgrades that skip out on the supercharger but feature aerodynamic, chassis and exhaust modifications.

New Ford Monitoring System Keeps Tabs On Police

New Ford Monitoring System Keeps Tabs On Police

Have you ever slammed on the brakes at the sight of a police car and wondered what it would be like to turn the tables on the people with the radar guns? Now, there’s a new bit of technology that does just that. Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] has announced a new telematics system for police cars that will keep tabs on the cops while they drive, tracking their behavior in real time.

Developed in collaboration with California-based technology company Telogis, the system can tell what speed police officers are traveling at, and whether they’re wearing seat belts. Ford says this will allow departments to more effectively promote safe driving, noting that crashes are the number one cause of officer fatalities.

Based on the Crew Chief system Ford already offers to fleet buyers, the system can monitor multiple vehicle parameters, including lateral acceleration, spins, throttle and braked pedal position, and whether anti-lock braking, traction control, or stability control were triggered. Agencies can get individual “scorecards” of their officers’ driving behavior based on these metrics.

While this does put officers under constant scrutiny, the system is intended to help police departments spot and correct patterns of bad driving behavior early including, for example, cracking down on minor infractions such as speeding or turning on a car’s flashers to run through a red light while not in a chase.

The Los Angeles Police Department is already using the system on some of its vehicles, and it will be available to other police agencies in 2015.

This is yet another example of how the massive amounts of data new cars are capable of collecting can not only be used to help a driver, but also to tattle on his or her bad habits. Earlier this year, Chevrolet announced the new Corvette Stingray Performance Data Recorder, which includes a Valet Mode that allows owners to record video of valet drivers. It’s already run afoul of wiretapping laws in certain states, because audio recordings could potentially be made without a person’s knowledge.

The Ford system doesn’t record what’s going on inside a police car’s cabin, but it may still make some officers uneasy knowing that they’re being watched.

Two Modified 2015 Ford Mustangs Revealed Ahead Of 2014 SEMA Show

Two Modified 2015 Ford Mustangs Revealed Ahead Of 2014 SEMA Show

Following the pair of modified 2015 F-150 pickup trucks it unveiled ahead of the 2014 SEMA show, the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] is previewing two 2015 Mustang show cars.

The Blue Oval is hoping to introduce the redesigned pony car to the aftermarket in a big way, with a “stampede” of modified Mustangs beginning with these cars from Petty’s Garage and Galpin Auto Sports (GAS).

Not surprisingly, the Petty’s Garage Mustang is decked out in a bright shade of blue reminiscent of Richard “The King” Petty’s NASCAR racers. It’s contrasted by a black top and the two-tone scheme is echoed by custom black wheels with blue lips. Under the hood is a Roush supercharged V-8.

After SEMA, the Petty’s Garage car will be auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson with proceeds going to Victory Junction Gang Camp, a summer camp for chronically ill children started by the Petty family.

In contrast to the bright blue Petty Mustang, Galpin’s creation looks positively sinister in its gold-flecked black paint. That–along with gold wheels and other accents–signifies the 50th anniversary of the Mustang. There’s even a gold-plated Whipple supercharger, which boosts output from the 5.0-liter Coyota V-8 to 725 horsepower.
The GAS Mustang also features a custom front fascia and new headlights with LED turn signals that blink in sequence, just like on the taillights. Rounding out the aesthetic changes are a carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels, along a more aggressive rear diffuser.

Both of these cars may be V-8s, but Ford expects the new-for-2015 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine to attract plenty of attention from tuners as well.

We’ll have to wait until the doors open in Las Vegas to see what those cars look like. The 2014 SEMA show runs November 4-7, and you can catch up on the latest updates at our dedicated hub.

Hennessey 2015 HPE700 supercharged Ford Mustang

Hennessey 2015 HPE700 supercharged Ford Mustang

Texas-tuned HPE700 Mustang has firepower to battle Corvette Z06 & SRT Hellcat

Sealy, Texas- Hellcat and Z06, be very afraid. Because when that 2015 Mustang 5.0L with the Hennessey script on its decklid sidles up next to you at the stoplight, it might very well be packing 717 supercharged horsepower. Dig the spurs in, pilgrim, and she’ll bolt to 60 mph in a scant 3.6 seconds. Keep your foot down, and the pressurized Coyote 5.0-liter 4-cammer will blaze to a white-hot 11.2-second quarter mile at 131 mph. It’s ponycar meets supercar.

“We’re very excited about the 2015 Ford Mustang and so are our performance-minded clients,” said John Hennessey. “Our HPE700 Supercharged upgrade will elevate this Motown Missile’s performance to rival some of the fastest European sports cars. We can’t wait to share our specially tuned Mustang with the world!”

“This thing is uncaged, absolutely nuts,” says Hennessey partner Don Goldman. “We’re thrilled to offer a 2015 Mustang that will outperform some of the fastest cars currently offered, at a lower price point.”

Key to that 717 bhp (and the HPE700’s deep well of torque-632 lb-ft at 4400 rpm) is the Roots-type high-helix supercharger packing 7.25 psi of boost. Helping the Coyote V8 breathe more deeply is a high-flow throttle body and stainless-steel exhaust system. Upgraded injectors and fuel pump help feed the V8, under command of Hennessey’s proprietary engine management calibration.

Just 500 units of the HPE700 will be produced for the 2015 Mustang model year. Pricing starts at $59,500 USD including the base 2015 5.0L Mustang GT. But greater personalization and performance can be had by adding options such as CarbonAero carbon-fiber bodywork (front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser and rear lip spoiler), 20-in. Hennessey H10 wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 2 tires, and a Brembo brake package with 15.1-in. front rotors. As a package, they give the Mustang improved downforce, cornering and braking to keep pace with the colossal supercharged power.

New 2015 Hennessey Mustangs can be ordered through any of AutoNation’s 37 Ford dealerships across America. A high-performance upgrade for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost-powered Mustang is also under development.
